Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vainateya)

Ritual Type: Parvana

Beneficiary: Pitr

Timing: Caturdaśī and Paurṇimā (as indicated)

Concept: Ritual efficacy depends on right time (tithi) and right deity; intended outcomes are mediated by cosmic offices (Hari, Kāma, Maheśvara, Brahmā, Pitṛs).

Vedantic Theme: Karma-kāṇḍa as ordered action; devotion disciplines desire (Kāma) under dharma and īśvara governance.

Application: On Dvādaśī worship Hari; on Trayodaśī worship Kāma; on Caturdaśī worship Maheśvara; on Caturdaśī–Paurṇamāsī worship Brahmā and Pitṛs for desired fruits, per one’s sampradāya.

FAQs

This verse links specific lunar days with specific deities, indicating that worship aligned with the tithi is believed to yield results more effectively and in a dharmic, orderly way.

By highlighting the Pitṛs as bestowers of fruits on key tithis, it reinforces the Garuda Purana’s emphasis on honoring ancestors through prescribed observances, which supports family welfare and fulfills ancestral obligations (pitṛ-ṛṇa).

If you follow traditional practice, you can schedule Viṣṇu worship on Dvādaśī, Śiva worship on Caturdaśī, and perform Pitṛ-oriented acts (tarpana/prayer/charity in their name) on Amāvāsyā or Paurṇimā with sincerity and ethical living.
