Origin of Bhairava and the Subduing of Brahmā’s Pride
namastubhyaṃ bhagavate baṃdhave viśvayonaye | sahiṣṇave sarvadoṣāṇāṃ śaṃbhave śailadhanvane

This verse offers a devotional salutation to Shiva as the universal source (viśvayoni) and the compassionate, forbearing Lord who absorbs devotees’ impurities and leads them toward liberation through grace.
By praising Shiva with divine attributes (Śambhu, Viśvayoni, Sahiṣṇu), the verse supports Saguna upāsanā—approaching Shiva in a worshipful, personal form, commonly centered on Linga worship as the accessible manifestation of the Supreme.
Use this as a namaskāra-mantra before Linga pūjā, then do japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a devotional attitude, seeking purification from doṣas and steadiness in dharma.
