Bondage and Liberation: The Prakṛti–Karma Wheel and Śiva as the Transcendent Cause
तस्मादस्य वशीकर्ता नास्तीति स शिवः स्मृतः । यथा सर्वमृगाणां च हिंसको मृगहिंसकः
tasmādasya vaśīkartā nāstīti sa śivaḥ smṛtaḥ | yathā sarvamṛgāṇāṃ ca hiṃsako mṛgahiṃsakaḥ
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
Cosmic Event: Assertion of divine sovereignty: Śiva as the one beyond all subjugation, contrasted with worldly hierarchies (lion among beasts).
It declares Śiva as the Supreme Pati—independent, unsurpassable, and unconquerable—indicating that liberation comes not by mastering Him, but by surrender and grace through devotion and right knowledge.
The Liṅga signifies Śiva’s transcendence and sovereignty: He is not an object to be controlled, but the Lord to be revered. Saguna worship (Liṅga-pūjā with mantra and offerings) trains the devotee to approach Him with humility and bhakti rather than egoic dominance.
Cultivate surrender through japa of the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and steady Liṅga-dhyāna, remembering Śiva as the unsurpassed Lord beyond all subjugation.
