नन्दिकेशावतारवर्णनम् (Nandikeśa Avatāra Varṇanam) — “Account of the Descent/Origin of Nandikeśvara”
पुत्र उवाच । न तात तपसा मृत्युं वंचयिष्ये न विद्यया । महादेवस्य भजनान्मृत्युं जेष्यामि नान्यथा
putra uvāca | na tāta tapasā mṛtyuṃ vaṃcayiṣye na vidyayā | mahādevasya bhajanānmṛtyuṃ jeṣyāmi nānyathā
子は言った。「父上よ、苦行によっても、ただの学識によっても、死を欺くことはいたしません。マハーデーヴァへの篤き帰依と礼拝によってのみ、私は死に勝ちます—他の道はありません。」

Sthala Purana: The Lord is praised as the supreme healer who grants victory over death; this verse’s theme (mṛtyu-jaya through Mahādeva-bhajana) aligns with the Vaidyanātha tradition where Śiva is approached as the divine physician and protector from untimely death.
Significance: Protection from untimely death, healing, and strengthening of bhakti as the direct means to transcend mṛtyu.

It teaches that victory over death is ultimately attained through surrender and devotion to Pati (Mahādeva), not through ego-driven tapas or merely intellectual vidyā—aligning with Shaiva Siddhanta where grace (anugraha) is decisive.
“Bhajana of Mahādeva” points to Saguna worship—approaching Shiva through accessible forms such as the Śiva-liṅga, names, and rituals—so the devotee receives Shiva’s protective, liberating grace (often expressed as Mṛtyuñjaya).
Devotional bhajana can be practiced as japa of Shiva’s names (especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and worship of the liṅga; the intent is steady devotion seeking Mahādeva’s grace to transcend fear and death.
