The Recital/Teaching of the Thousand Names of Śiva
praṇavaḥ satpathācāro mahākośo mahādhanaḥ | janmādhipo mahā devaḥ sakalāgamapāragaḥ
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Type: stotra
The verse identifies Śiva as Praṇava (Oṁ) and as the very principle of righteous practice, teaching that liberation arises by aligning one’s life with the true path rooted in Śiva, who is the ultimate wealth and the Lord beyond the cycle of birth.
Calling Śiva the Praṇava and the master of all Āgamas supports Āgamic, Saguna worship—especially Linga-upāsanā—where Oṁ and Śiva-mantras sanctify the ritual and reveal the formless truth through a worshipable form.
Japa and contemplation of Oṁ (Praṇava) and Śiva-mantra (notably the Pañcākṣarī, “Oṁ Namaḥ Śivāya”), coupled with satpatha-ācāra (ethical, disciplined living), is the implied practice.
