Nāgeśa-jyotirliṅga-prādurbhāvaḥ — The Manifestation of the Nāgeśa Jyotirliṅga
और्व उवाच । पृथिव्यां यदि रक्षांसि हिंस्युर्वै प्राणिनस्तदा । स्वयं प्राणैर्वियुज्येयू राक्षसा बलवत्तराः
aurva uvāca | pṛthivyāṃ yadi rakṣāṃsi hiṃsyurvai prāṇinastadā | svayaṃ prāṇairviyujyeyū rākṣasā balavattarāḥ
アウルヴァは言った。「もし地上で羅刹(ラークシャサ)が生きとし生けるものを害するなら、より強きその羅刹たちが、自ら彼らを生命の息(プラーナ)から引き離すであろう。」
Aurva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
The verse highlights the harsh consequence of adharmic violence: those who harm beings become instruments of death, reinforcing the Shaiva ethic that protection of life and restraint are foundational to dharma and inner purification.
In Kotirudrasaṃhitā, the Jyotirlinga tradition frames Shiva as the protector and purifier; this verse supports the devotional stance of seeking Shiva’s safeguarding grace while cultivating non-violence and dharmic conduct in the presence of hostile forces.
A practical takeaway is to take refuge in Shiva through japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and maintain protective purity (e.g., Tripuṇḍra with bhasma), aligning one’s prāṇa and conduct with dharma rather than fear.
