Sthala Purana: Sage Dadhīci, famed for self-sacrifice and tapas, establishes (pratiṣṭhā) a Śiva-liṅga at Miśrarṣi-vara-tīrtha; the shrine’s sanctity derives from ṛṣi-pratiṣṭhā and devotional intent.
Significance: Highlights ṛṣi-pratiṣṭhita liṅga worship as a stable conduit of merit and grace; the tīrtha becomes a preserved locus of Śiva’s presence through consecration.
It teaches that consecrating and honoring the Śiva-liṅga at a tīrtha with sincere devotion (suprīti) becomes a direct, grace-filled means of approaching Pati (Śiva), the liberator, and supports the devotee’s movement toward mokṣa.
The liṅga is Saguna Śiva’s accessible form for worship, allowing devotees to focus love and reverence in a concrete rite of pratishṭhā; through this, the transcendent Nirguna reality is approached via a sanctified symbol and disciplined devotion.
It points to liṅga-pratiṣṭhā and tīrtha-based worship done with bhakti—regular abhiṣeka, offerings, and japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as a steady daily practice.
