かくして加持の水を三度灑ぎ、さらに頭上にも三度灑いでから、三度すすり飲む。よく収斂した心で、主をオṃカーラとして観想せよ——音節「オーム」が示す至高の主権的実在として。
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva’s prescribed Shaiva rite and meditation as taught in the Kailasa Samhita context)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Jyotirlinga: Oṃkāreśvara
Sthala Purana: Oṃkāreśvara is revered where Śiva is worshiped as Oṃkāra itself; the kṣetra centers on the identity of Īśvara with praṇava, and the liṅga is celebrated as self-manifest and mantra-svarūpa in local tradition.
Significance: Meditation on Oṃkāra-Śiva and tīrtha-snāna/abhiṣeka are sought for inner purification and īśvara-anugraha; the verse’s Oṃkāra-dhyāna directly mirrors the kṣetra’s core upāsanā.
Mantra: Oṃ (oṃkāra)
Type: gayatri
Role: liberating
It unites outer purification (sprinkling and sipping sanctified water) with inner purification (one-pointed meditation), culminating in contemplation of Śiva as Oṃkāra—the supreme Lord who grants clarity and liberation when approached with a steady mind.
In Shaiva practice, ritual purity supports Linga-worship and prepares the devotee to move from saguna upāsanā (worship with form and rite) toward subtler contemplation—here expressed as meditation on Śiva’s presence indicated by Oṃ.
Perform ācamana-like sipping thrice after sprinkling, then sit with a composed mind and meditate on Oṃ (Oṃkāra) as Īśvara—using mantra-centered dhyāna as the inner completion of the rite.
