本十句群は、浄化され流れ出るソーマ(パヴァマーナ/インドゥ)を讃える。ソーマは「牛たち」(濾し器・流れ)を通って澄み、清らかな光彩を帯び、牛馬・子孫・祭儀の成就という富を授け、友として固く結ばれる。さらに、無神の者や貪り食う者を退け、二重の禍いと祭儀の妨げを除き、祭主と生命を守って繁栄をもたらす。
Mantra 1
गोमन्न इन्दो अश्ववत्सुतः सुदक्ष धनिव शुचिं च वर्णमधि गोषु धार्य
牛に富むインドゥ(Indu)よ、馬と子孫を授け、善き効力をもち、豊かなる者よ。汝の清らかな光輝を帯びよ、それを「牛」――濾し器(ストレーナー)――の上に据えられるために。
Mantra 2
स नो हरीणां पत इन्दो देवप्सरस्तमः सखेव सख्ये नर्यो रुचे भव
われらのためにあれ、インドゥ(Indu、ソーマ)よ、黄褐の駿馬の主として。最もすぐれ、最も神聖なる者よ。友が友情にあるように、雄々しくあれ、われらの輝きのために光りあれ。
Mantra 3
सनेमि त्वमस्मदा अदेवं कं चिदत्रिणम् साह्वां इन्दो परि बाधो अप द्वयुम्
道を堅く進む者よ、インドゥ(Indu)よ。征服する力もて、われらより一切の不敬虔なる貪り食う者を遠く追い払い、二重の悪をも退けよ。
It praises Soma as he becomes purified and radiant, asking him to bring prosperity (cattle, horses, offspring) and to protect the sacrificer by driving away hostile, godless forces.
In this context, “goṣu” is commonly read (as in Sāyaṇa) as the ritual ‘cows’: the strainers/streams or filtering media on which Soma is placed and through which he becomes bright and pure.
The verses mention the “adeva” (one opposed to the gods/ritual) and an “atriṇa” (a devourer or harmful aggressor), and they ask Soma to repel “dvayum,” a twofold harm—often understood as combined worldly and ritual obstruction.
