本十誦は主としてインドラを讃え、祭儀における効験ある努力と「真実の力」(satya-śavas)を掲げる。規律ある労苦と祭の知(vidā)が備わるとき、望む成果と英雄的勝利が得られると説く。ついで火神アグニ(ジャータヴェーダス Jātavedas)に向かい、浄化・聖別(pavasva)によって供物を力づけ、諸神へと高く運び上げる媒介者として招請する。結びには、光輝(varcas)、活力・善き子孫/武勇(suvīrya)、財(draviṇa)、安寧・福祉(yoṣa)を授け、祭の栄えと繁栄、享受が現れるよう祈願する。
