Hanuman’s Counsel to Angada on Succession and Strategy
dharmakāmaḥ pitṛvyas te prītikāmo dṛḍhavrataḥ |
śuciḥ satyapratijñaś ca na tvāṁ jātu jighāṁsati ||
'Your father's brother is virtuous, well-intentioned, loving, steadfast in action, and true to his promise. He will not kill you.
Dharma is grounded in satya (truthfulness) and vow-keeping: a righteous ruler/elder does not betray kin or violate pledged protection.
Hanuman reassures Angada that Sugrīva’s character and commitment to truth make harm to Angada unlikely.
Sugrīva’s satyapratijñā (truth to promise) and dṛḍhavrata (steadfastness) are highlighted as safeguards for Angada.
