Sugriva on Surveying the Earth’s Regions
सम्पश्यन्विविधान्देशानस्तं च गिरिसत्तमम्।प्राप्य चास्तं गिरिश्रेष्ठमुत्तरां सम्प्रधावितः।।।।
sampaśyan vividhān deśān astaṁ ca girisattamam |
prāpya cāstaṁ giriśreṣṭham uttarāṁ sampradhāvitaḥ ||
さまざまな国土を見渡しつつ、私は「アスタ」と呼ばれる勝れた山、すなわち日没の山に至った。さらにその最上の峰に達すると、北の方角へと駆け続けた。
Then offering reverential salutation to Rama, Sugriva said, 'I shall narrate in detail. Listen, O bull among men !
Dharma is the continued search for rightful shelter and stability; the narrative models persistence guided by hope rather than vengeance.
Sugrīva describes reaching the ‘sunset’ mountain and then fleeing onward to the north.
