Lakshmana Enters Kishkindha: Anger, Tara’s Mediation, and Sugriva Encountered
दृष्ट्वाऽभिजनसम्पन्नाश्चित्रमाल्यकृतस्रजः।फलमाल्यकृतव्यग्रा भूषणोत्तमभूषिताः।।4.33.23।।नातृप्तान्नापि चाव्यग्रान्नानुदात्तपरिच्छदान्।सुग्रीवानुचरांश्चापि लक्षयामास लक्ष्मणः।।4.33.24।।
nātṛptān nāpi cāvyagrān nānudāttaparicchadān |
sugrīvānucarāṃś cāpi lakṣayāmāsa lakṣmaṇaḥ ||
ラクシュマナはまた、スグリーヴァの従者たちにも目を留めた。彼らは不満げでもなく気も散っておらず、粗末な身なりでもなく、整然と控えていた。
Lakshmana saw women with a good lineage adorned with colourful flower garlands and choicest ornaments engaged in making garlands and arranging fruits. He also saw at Sugriva's palace attendants, gentle, welldressed, contented and not too busy.
Dharma of governance: a ruler’s household appears orderly and well-maintained—yet dharma also requires keeping promises to allies (satya in commitments).
Lakṣmaṇa surveys the palace staff and notes their composed, well-appointed condition.
Judicious assessment: Lakṣmaṇa gathers evidence of Sugrīva’s settled comfort before confronting him about neglected duty.
