The Slaying of Vali
स निश्श्वस्य महातेजा वाली परमरोषणः।सर्वतश्चारयन् दृष्टिं शत्रुदर्शनकाङ्क्षया4.16.14।।
sa niśśvasya mahātejā vālī paramaroṣaṇaḥ |
sarvataścārayan dṛṣṭiṃ śatrudarśanakāṅkṣayā || 4.16.14 ||
激しく息をつきつつ、威光あるヴァーリーは烈怒にとらわれ、敵を見出さんとして四方へ視線を巡らせた。
The mighty Vali, breathing heavily, looked around to find where his enemy was.
The verse highlights how anger (krodha) disturbs discernment; Dharma requires self-mastery before action, especially in conflict.
Vāli, agitated and searching, looks around to locate the opponent he intends to confront.
Not virtue but a cautionary trait: uncontrolled wrath driving impulsive intent.
