FAQs

Śrauta refers to rituals grounded in Śruti (Vedic revelation), while Smārta refers to duties and observances grounded in Smṛti (remembered tradition such as Dharmaśāstra). The verse says such prescribed practices could not even begin/continue.

It highlights a situation where dharmic practice becomes obstructed: despite witnessing the problem, the community cannot perform even basic prescribed rites, and the resulting decline or loss keeps increasing daily.

Yes. It implies that when harmful influences or disorder prevail, both religious discipline and social well-being deteriorate progressively, urging timely correction to prevent compounding loss.
