Bhīṣma–Arjuna Encounter Framed Cosmically
भवतां हि कृतास्त्रत्वं यथा5<दित्ये प्रभा तथा । यथा चन्द्रमसो लक्ष्मी: सर्वथा नापकृष्यते
bhavatāṁ hi kṛtāstratvaṁ yathāditye prabhā tathā | yathā candramaso lakṣmīḥ sarvathā nāpakṛṣyate ||
ビーシュマは言った。「汝らの武芸の熟達は、太陽の光輝のごとく、また月の美のごとく、いささかも衰えぬ。かくして、武器の学における汝らの学識と技は、まったく損なわれずに保たれている。」
भीष्म उवाच
True competence—especially in a warrior’s discipline—should be steady and undiminished; Bhīṣma uses the sun and moon as ethical images of unwavering excellence and enduring capability.
Bhīṣma addresses the warriors before battle, affirming that their expertise in weapons has not declined, comparing it to the ever-present radiance of the sun and the constant beauty of the moon.
