Omens in the Kuru Host and Droṇa’s Recognition of Arjuna (क्लीबवेषधारी पार्थ-परिज्ञानम्)

सुसंहतोरुं कनकोज्ज्वलत्वचं पार्थ: कुमारी स तदाभ्यभाषत । किमागम: काउ्चनमाल्यधारिणि मृगाक्षि किं त्वं त्वरितेव भामिनि ।। कि ते मुखं सुन्दरि न प्रसन्न- माचक्ष्व तत्त्व मम शीघ्रमड़ने,सुवर्णके समान सुन्दर एवं गौर त्वचा तथा सटी जाँघोंवाली कुमारी उत्तराको देखकर अर्जुनने पूछा--'सुवर्णकी माला धारण करनेवाली मृगलोचने! भामिनि! तुम क्यों उतावली- सी चली आ रही हो? सुन्दरि! आज तुम्हारा मुख प्रसन्न क्यों नहीं है? अंगने! मुझे शीघ्र सब बातें ठीक-ठीक बताओ'

su-saṃhatoruṃ kanakojjvalatvacaṃ pārthaḥ kumārīṃ sa tadābhyabhāṣata | kim āgamaḥ kāñcanamālyadhāriṇi mṛgākṣi kiṃ tvaṃ tvariteva bhāmini || ki te mukhaṃ sundari na prasannam ācakṣva tattvaṃ mama śīghram aṅgane ||

ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。するとパールタ(アルジュナ)は、腿は引き締まり、肌は黄金のように輝く乙女ウッタラーを見て、こう問いかけた。「金の花鬘をつける者よ、なぜここへ来たのか。鹿のような眼の娘よ、なぜ憂いある者のように急ぐのか。美しき人よ、なぜ今日その顔は安らかでないのだ。愛しき者よ、何が起きたのか真実をただちに語れ。」
