Bhīṣma’s Appraisal of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Dharmic Rule
Iti prakāraṁ śrīmahābhārate virāṭaparvake antargata-goharaṇaparvaṇi karṇa-duḥśāsana-vacana-viṣayakaḥ ṣaḍviṁśatitamo 'dhyāyaḥ pūrṇaḥ.
Though this line is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse, it underscores a recurring Mahābhārata theme: speech and counsel are morally weighty. Words can guide toward restraint and dharma or inflame pride and aggression; therefore, accountability extends not only to actions but also to the advice and provocations that precipitate them.
This is the chapter-ending notice: it concludes the twenty-sixth chapter of the Goharaṇa (cattle-raid) section within Virāṭa Parva, specifying that the chapter’s subject concerned the statements of Karṇa and Duḥśāsana.
