युधिछिर उवाच
A leader should act with compassion and discernment: do not draw the vulnerable into severe hardship. Dharma here is expressed as protective responsibility toward ascetics and brāhmaṇas who depend on alms and may not be fit for arduous travel and cold.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses a group of brāhmaṇas and ascetics accompanying or following the party, advising that those unable to bear hunger, thirst, travel-weariness, and cold should turn back rather than suffer.
