Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rationale for Sending Arjuna and Request to Dhaumya
gavāmayanayajñasya phalaṁ prāpnoti mānavaḥ | dharmaṁ tatrābhisaṁspṛśya vājimedham avāpnuyāt ||
The verse teaches that sincere engagement with dharma in a sacred ritual context yields profound spiritual merit—so great that it is likened to the celebrated Aśvamedha—emphasizing ethical purity and righteous contact over mere external performance.
Ghūlastya is describing the religious efficacy of a renowned sacrificial observance (Gavāmayana), stating that a participant gains its fruit and, through contact with dharma there, can attain merit comparable to performing an Aśvamedha.
