The verse underscores dharma through hospitality: a virtuous person—especially a royal figure—should honour a worthy guest (atithi), particularly a learned brāhmaṇa, with respectful reception and generous gifts, strengthening social and moral order.
After the brāhmaṇa Parṇāda has rested, Damayantī, the Vidarbha princess, welcomes and honours him with wealth and promises even greater gifts when he reaches King Nala, indicating her reverence and her intent to support the messenger/guest in relation to Nala.
