सा दृष्टवा महदाश्चर्य विस्मिता हृभवत् तदा । दमयन्त्यनवद्याज्ी वीरसेननृपस्नुषा,उस समय राजा वीरसेनकी पुत्रवधू सर्वांगसुन्दरी दमयन्ती वह महान् आश्वर्यकी बात देखकर बड़े विस्मयमें पड़ गयी
sā dṛṣṭvā mahad āścaryaṃ vismitābhavat tadā | damayanty anavadyāṅgī vīrasenanṛpasnuṣā ||
その大いなる奇瑞を目の当たりにして、ダマヤンティー――容姿に一点の瑕もなく、ヴィーラセーナ王の嫁である彼女は――その時、驚嘆に打たれて立ちすくんだ。
बृहृदश्च उवाच
The verse highlights a moral-psychological point: when confronted with something extraordinary, one should pause and observe carefully. Astonishment can be the doorway to discernment, preventing rash conclusions and preparing the mind for truthful recognition.
Bṛhadaśva narrates that Damayantī sees a remarkable event and becomes deeply astonished. She is identified by her epithet and family relation—Vīrasena’s daughter-in-law—marking her status and setting up a significant moment of recognition or reversal in the story.
