Śiva Grants the Pāśupata Astra (Pāśupata-Śastra Upadeśa) | शिवेन पाशुपतास्त्रदानम्
मया समुद्यतान् पाशान् वारुणाननिवारितान् । प्रतिगृह्लीष्व कौन्तेय सरहस्यनिवर्तनम्,“कुन्तीकुमार! मेरे दिये हुए इन वरुण-पाशोंको रहस्य और उपसंहारसहित ग्रहण करो। इनके वेगको कोई भी रोक नहीं सकता
mayā samudyatān pāśān vāruṇān anivāritān | pratigṛhlīṣva kaunteya sa-rahasya-nivartanam ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「おおクンティの子よ、我よりこのヴァルナの縄(パーシャ)を受け取れ。すでに備えられ、その威力は誰にも阻めぬ。さらに、その秘法と、正しく収め退くための手立ても併せて授けよう。力を節し、見識をもって用いるためである。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Power must be accompanied by knowledge of limits: the gift includes not only an irresistible weapon but also its secret handling and the method of withdrawal, emphasizing ethical restraint and responsible use.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that a Pāṇḍava addressed as Kaunteya is being given Varuṇa’s nooses—divine, unstoppable bonds—along with the confidential instructions and the procedure to retract or neutralize them.
