वैशम्पायन उवाच
True renown is not mere public praise but the lasting fruit of courage and devotion aligned with dharma; when one acts with steadfast valor and sincerity, even the divine is said to be directly pleased, and the resulting kīrti becomes ‘akṣayā’—enduring beyond the moment.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana addresses Arjuna (Phālguna), declaring that Arjuna’s fame will be imperishable because, in the course of a great combat, he has personally satisfied Mahādeva (Śiva)—a statement that frames the episode as both a heroic trial and a divine validation.
