मेघगम्भीरनादेन तर्जयन्तं महास्वनम् | वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--राजन्! तत्पश्चात् उस समय इस प्रकार बोलनेवाले उस यक्षकी वह अमंगलमयी और कठोर वाणी सुनकर भरतश्रेष्ठ राजा युधिष्ठिर उसके पास जाकर खड़े हो गये। उन्होंने देखा
meghagambhīranādena tarjayantaṃ mahāsvanam | yakṣa uvāca: ime te bhrātaro rājan vāryamāṇā mayā sakṛt |
雷雲のように深い声で、ヤクシャは咆哮し、猛々しく威嚇した。曰く、「王よ、そなたの兄弟たちは我がたびたび戒めたにもかかわらず、力ずくで水を取ろうとした。ゆえに我は彼らを打ち倒した。ユディシュティラよ、命を惜しむならこの水を飲むな。パールタよ、飲むことを敢えてするな——この水は我が支配のもとにある。クンティの子よ、まず我が問いに答えよ。しかる後に飲み、そして水を持ち去るがよい。」
