तत्रोपसदन चक्रे द्रोणस्येष्वस्त्रकर्मणि । सख्यं दुर्योधनेनैवमगमत् स च वीर्यवान्,वहाँ उसने धरनुर्वेदकी शिक्षा लेनेके लिये आचार्य द्रोणकी शिष्यता स्वीकार की। इस प्रकार पराक्रमी कर्णकी दुर्योधनके साथ मित्रता हो गयी
tatro'pasadanaṃ cakre droṇasyeṣv-astrakarmaṇi | sakhyaṃ duryodhanenaivam agamat sa ca vīryavān ||
そこで彼は、弓術の規矩と飛び道具の用法を学ぶため、ドローナのもとに正式に入門し弟子となった。かくして勇猛なるカルナはドゥルヨーダナと友情で結ばれ—やがて迫り来る争乱の中で、忠誠と道義の選択を左右する盟約となった。
