Yakṣa-saṃvāda: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Interrogation at the Guarded Water
āśā nāhasi me hantuṃ sauhṛdāt praṇatasya ca | abhitakṣāgataṃ premṇā pratyākhyātuṃ na mārhasi ||
A person who comes in trust—bowed, seeking help in friendship—should not be rejected. The verse frames refusal as adharma: one must protect hope and respond to sincere approach with goodwill.
Humatsen addresses another person as a petitioner. He emphasizes that he has approached respectfully and affectionately, and therefore asks that his request not be refused or his hope crushed.
