Sāvitrī–Satyavān Vivāha: Kanyāpradāna and Āśrama-Śīla (सावित्री-सत्यवान्विवाहः)
kiṁ te sāhāyyaṁ mayā kāryaṁ kariṣyāmy avaśo ’pi tat |
The verse highlights an ethical tension: one may feel inwardly unwilling, yet circumstances, vows, or overpowering forces can make an action seem unavoidable. It invites reflection on responsibility, consent, and the moral weight of actions done under compulsion.
Mārkaṇḍeya speaks to Rāvaṇa and asks what assistance is required. His words convey reluctance but also an admission that he may be forced to comply, setting the tone for a request made by a powerful figure and the constrained agency of the one addressed.
