Sāvitrī’s Report and Nārada’s Prognosis (सावित्र्याख्यान—सत्यवान्-गुणवर्णनं तथा अल्पायुषः पूर्वसूचना)

मैं इस समय इस भूमण्डलका राजराजेश्वर हूँ चारों वर्णोकी रक्षा करनेवाला हूँ। कल्याणि! तुम्हारा जो भी अभिलषित मनोरथ हो, उसे बताओ, देर न करो ।। सा तद्वचनमाज्ञाय परिगृह नराधिपम्‌ | आत्मनो बलमाज्ञाय तत एनमुवाच ह,राजाकी बातको समझकर और उन्हें सब प्रकारसे वचनबद्ध करके अपनी शक्तिको भी ठीक-ठीक जान लेनेके बाद कैकेयीने उनसे कहा--

ahaṁ asmin samaye asya bhūmaṇḍalasya rājarājeśvaraḥ, caturṇāṁ varṇānāṁ rakṣitā. kalyāṇi! tava yo ’pi abhilaṣitaḥ manorathaḥ, taṁ brūhi; mā ciram akārṣīḥ. sā tad-vacanam ājñāya parigṛhya narādhipam, ātmano balam ājñāya tata enam uvāca ha—

「今この時、我はこの全大地の至高の王、四つの身分(ヴァルナ)を守護する者である。吉祥なる婦人よ、汝が胸に抱く望みのままを告げよ、ためらうな。」その言葉を悟り、あらゆる手立てで王の誓約を確かなものとし、さらに己の力を正確に量ったのち、カイケーイーは王に向かって語り出した。
