Rāvaṇa–Mārīca Dialogue and the Decoy-Deer Prelude to Sītā’s Abduction
īrṣyāśokaklamāpetā mohamātsaryavarjitāḥ | sukhaṃ svargajitas tatra vartayante mahāmune ||
Heaven is portrayed not merely as a place of pleasure but as a state attained by puṇya (meritorious action) and characterized by inner purification: absence of envy, grief, fatigue, delusion, and malice. Ethical conduct yields both external reward (Svarga) and internal transformation (freedom from destructive emotions).
A celestial messenger addresses a great sage and describes the condition of those who have earned heaven through righteous deeds: they dwell there happily and are free from negative mental states such as jealousy, sorrow, delusion, and spite.
