Yudhiṣṭhira’s Lament on Kāla and Daiva after Draupadī’s Recovery
sajjaṃ kratuvaraṃ rājan prāptakālaṃ ca bhārata | sauvarṇaṃ ca kṛtaṃ sarvaṃ lāṅgalaṃ ca mahādhanam ||
The verse highlights dharmic discipline in ritual life: a sacred undertaking should be performed with complete preparation and at the proper time. Readiness (sajja) and timeliness (prāptakāla) are presented as ethical requirements for a rite, not merely practical details.
Vaiśampāyana informs the king that the foremost sacrifice is fully arranged, the scheduled time has arrived, and a valuable golden plough—an important ritual implement in this context—has been finished, signaling that the ceremony is ready to commence.
