Draupadī’s Identification and Counsel on Hospitality
sa suhṛcchokado jātaḥ śatrūṇāṃ harṣavardhanaḥ | vāraṇāhṇayam āsādya kiṃ vakṣyāmi janādhipam |
The verse highlights the ethical weight of consequences: when one acts from hostility and pride, the outcome can harm one’s own supporters and embolden opponents. It also shows the inner reckoning of a leader facing accountability before authority.
Duryodhana speaks in distress after an unsuccessful or humiliating turn of events. He anticipates returning to Hastinapura and fears reporting to the king, since the result has brought sorrow to his allies and joy to his enemies.
