Draupadī’s Identification and Counsel on Hospitality

The verse highlights how a vow can be used ethically or unethically: a ‘fast unto death’ may appear as resolve, but in context it can function as coercion and avoidance of prudent duty, raising questions about dharma in leadership and the morality of pressuring others through self-harm.
Duryodhana announces that he will remain where he is and fast until death, and he dismisses his companions, telling them to go back home—signaling a dramatic escalation in his stance and an attempt to force a desired outcome through an extreme personal vow.
