Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Sacrifice Commences and the Pandavas’ Reply to the Invitation
ततो मायास्त्रमास्थाय युयुधे चित्रमार्गवित् । तयामुहान्त कौरव्यश्रित्रसेनस्थ मायया
tato māyāstram āsthāya yuyudhe citramārgavit | tayā muhyanta kauravyaś citrasenastha māyayā ||
そのとき、奇策に通じた者はマーヤーアストラ(幻術の武器)を取り、戦いを続けた。その幻力によってクル族の戦士たちは惑乱に投げ込まれ、チトラーセーナは立ったまま自らのマーヤーを行使した。この一件は、欺きによって振るわれる力が驕る者の自信を覆し、見かけが操られるとき識別の智が試されることを示している。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how māyā (illusion) can destabilize even powerful opponents, implying an ethical warning: strength without discernment is vulnerable, and reliance on pride or mere force can be overturned by deceptive appearances.
Citrāsena (a Gandharva figure in this episode) resorts to the māyāstra and fights using magical illusion; as a result, the Kauravas become confused and lose clarity in the confrontation.
