Educational Q&A

As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the episode within the Mahābhārata’s ethical arc, where actions driven by pride and antagonism—such as Duryodhana’s provocative departure—are positioned as steps that intensify adharma and move society toward destructive conflict.

This is the formal closing statement for the chapter: it identifies the text (Mahābhārata), the larger book (Vana Parva), the internal section (Ghoṣa-yātrā), and the chapter’s subject (Duryodhana’s departure), and then marks the chapter as completed (the 239th).
