Duryodhana’s Śaraṇāgati and the Pāṇḍavas’ Resolve
Gandharva Encounter
ajeyas tvaṁ raṇe 'rīṇām umāpatir iva prabhuḥ | etat te prathamaṁ deva khyātaṁ karma bhaviṣyati ||
The verse frames heroic excellence as steadfast invincibility in righteous struggle, and links true sovereignty with restraint and divine-like mastery; fame is presented as the natural consequence of exemplary action.
Mārkaṇḍeya addresses a divine or exalted figure, praising him as unbeatable in battle and comparing his lordship to Śiva’s, while predicting that a particular forthcoming act will become his first widely celebrated exploit.
