Duryodhana Seized by Citraseṇa; Kaurava Petition to Yudhiṣṭhira (दुर्योधनापहारः / चित्रसेनगन्धर्वग्रहणम्)
Āryā mātā kumārasya pṛthak kāmārtham ijyate | evam ete kumārāṇāṁ mayā proktā mahāgrahāḥ ||
That specific forms of worship and propitiation of the divine Mother are undertaken to obtain desired outcomes and, in the same protective-religious framework, Mārkaṇḍeya classifies and explains the powerful afflictive ‘grahas’ believed to trouble children—implying that right ritual attention and reverence are remedies against harm.
Mārkaṇḍeya is concluding or summarizing an explanation about ‘mahāgrahas’ connected with children. He notes that the Mother associated with Kumāra is worshipped separately for wish-fulfillment, and then states that he has accordingly described these great grahas affecting children.
