abhidhāvatu māṁ kaścit puruṣas trātu caiva ha | patiṁ ca me pradiśatu svayaṁ vā patir astu me ||
The verse highlights the dharmic expectation of protection for one in distress and the social-ethical framework in which a woman’s security is voiced through the institution of marriage; it also shows how urgent pleas can invoke both immediate rescue and longer-term social safeguarding.
Yudhiṣṭhira reports a woman’s desperate cry: she calls for a heroic man to rush to her aid, protect her, and either arrange a husband for her or become her husband himself—an appeal combining immediate rescue with a request for lawful social protection.
