Educational Q&A

If dharma is practiced merely as a cover for personal gain, the mind becomes attached to profit rather than principle; that attachment then breeds willingness to commit sin, since righteousness has been instrumentalized.

In the Vyādha’s instruction to a Brahmin (dvijaśreṣṭha), he warns that performing religious or righteous acts for ulterior motives—especially for wealth—shifts one’s intellect toward enjoyment of gain and gradually awakens sinful intent.
