पञ्चवर्णोत्पत्तिः — The Origin of the Five-Colored Fiery Being and Ritual-Disruptor Lineages
विषमां च दशां प्राप्तो देवान् गहति वै भृशम् । आत्मन: कर्मदोषाणि न विजानात्यपण्डित:,मूर्ख मानव संकटकी दशामें पड़नेपर देवताओंको बहुत कोसता है, उनकी भरपेट निन्दा करता है; किंतु वह यह नहीं समझता कि यह अपने ही कर्मोका दोषावह परिणाम है
viṣamāṃ ca daśāṃ prāpto devān gahati vai bhṛśam | ātmanaḥ karmadoṣāṇi na vijānāty apaṇḍitaḥ ||
狩人は言った。「人が苛烈で不均(ふきん)な境遇に落ちると、神々を激しく責め、ありったけの非難を浴びせる。だが愚かな者は、それが自らの行いの過(あやま)ちに由来し、この苦しみが己の業の報いであることを悟らない。」
व्याध उवाच
One should not blame the gods for misfortune; adversity is often the ripened result of one’s own actions, and wisdom lies in recognizing personal responsibility (karma-doṣa) rather than indulging in reproach.
In the Vyādha’s instruction (the hunter’s discourse), he rebukes the common habit of people in distress to curse the gods, explaining that such blame comes from ignorance, since the true cause is one’s own prior conduct and its consequences.
