कृषिं साध्विति मन्यन्ते तत्र हिंसा परा स्मृता । कर्षन्तो लाडूलै: पुंसो घ्नन्ति भूमिशयान् बहून् । जीवानन्यांश्व बहुशस्तत्र कि प्रतिभाति ते
kṛṣiṃ sādhv iti manyante tatra hiṃsā parā smṛtā | karṣanto lāḍūlaiḥ puṃso ghnanti bhūmiśayān bahūn | jīvān anyāṃś ca bahuśas tatra kiṃ pratibhāti te ||
マールカンデーヤは言った。「人々は農耕を徳ある生業とみなす。だがそこでは、暴力がきわめて大きいと伝えられている。人が鋤や犂で土を起こすとき、地の上や土中に潜む多くの生きものを殺し、また幾度となく他の命をも滅ぼしてしまう。かかる場合、そなたには何が正しい道として映るのか。」
