Educational Q&A

The verse upholds dāna-dharma: giving to a worthy petitioner without anger and without later regret. True generosity is marked not only by the size of the gift but by inner steadiness—freedom from irritation at being asked and freedom from remorse after giving.

A Brahmin speaker responds to a request by granting a substantial gift—one thousand rohiṇī (reddish) cows—and declares his personal vow-like disposition: he does not become angry at petitioners and does not lament wealth once donated.
