The verse highlights reverent inquiry into a being of extraordinary, cosmic nature: the universe is envisioned as contained within the divine body, and the question turns to purpose (teleology) and duration (kāla). It frames spiritual understanding as arising through humble questioning about the relation between the finite form and the infinite cosmos.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana reports a question addressed to a mighty, blameless figure described as a ‘subduer of foes.’ The speaker asks why the whole universe is present within that being’s body and how long the being will remain there in that particular manifested form, indicating a moment of awe and theological curiosity.
