Nārāyaṇopadeśa to Mārkaṇḍeya (Cosmic Self-Identification and Yuga Doctrine) |

mārkaṇḍeya uvāca | sadakṣiṇāṃ kāñcanacāruśṛṅgīṃ kāṃsyopadohāṃ draviṇair uttarīyaiḥ | dhenuṃ tilānāṃ dadato dvijāya lokā vasūnāṃ sulabhā bhavanti ||

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that properly performed charitable giving—especially a ritually complete gift (with dakṣiṇā and appropriate accompaniments) to a worthy recipient—generates puṇya that leads to auspicious divine realms, here described as the worlds of the Vasus.

Mārkaṇḍeya is instructing about the fruits of specific dharmic donations. He describes the components of a ‘tiladhenu’ gift and states its result: easy attainment of the Vasus’ realms, emphasizing the religious and ethical value of such dāna.
