vaiśampāyana uvāca | tataḥ sūryodaye dhaumyaḥ kṛtvāhnikaṁ marindama | ārtiṣeṇena sahitaḥ pāṇḍavān abhyavartata | tato yudhiṣṭhiraṁ dhaumyo gṛhītvā dakṣiṇe kare | prācīṁ diśam abhiprekṣya maharṣir idam abravīt |
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。やがて日の出の時、聖仙ダウミヤは朝の作法（アフニカ）を終えると、アルティシェーナを伴ってパーンダヴァたちのもとへ近づいた。そこでダウミヤはユディシュティラの右手を取り、東方を見つめつつ、大いなるリシは次の言葉を述べた。
