Indra’s Meeting with the Pāṇḍavas
ततस्ते हतशिष्टा ये भीमसेनेन राक्षसा:
tataste hataśiṣṭā ye bhīmasenena rākṣasāḥ
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。やがて、ビー マセーナの殺戮ののちに残った羅刹たち――その猛攻を生き延びた者ども――は、敗れた軍勢の残滓のように、その場に立ち尽くしていた。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The line highlights the aftermath of adharma meeting forceful restraint: when violent aggressors are checked, only a diminished remnant remains. In epic ethics, such force is framed as protective action—curbing predation and restoring safety—rather than gratuitous cruelty.
After Bhīmasena has killed many rākṣasas, the narration turns to those who survived the slaughter—the remaining rākṣasas who are left in the wake of his attack.
