Adhyāya 160: Dikpāla-Cosmography and the Sun’s Kālacakra
nānṛte kuruṣe bhāvaṁ kaccid dharme pravartase | mātāpitroś ca te vṛttiḥ kaccit pārtha na sīdati ||
The verse underscores three ethical pillars: avoiding falsehood (anṛta), remaining active in dharma (right conduct and duty), and maintaining steadfast service and respect toward one’s parents—warning against any decline in these foundational virtues.
Vaiśampāyana, in his narration, reports a concerned inquiry addressed to Pārtha (Arjuna), checking whether his moral resolve is intact: whether he is truthful, committed to dharma, and unwavering in his obligations toward his parents.
