हनूमांश्व महासत्त्व ईषदुन्मील्य लोचने । दृष्टवा तमथ सावज्ञं लोचनैर्मधुपिड्लै: । स्मितेन चैनमासाद्य हनूमानिदमब्रवीत्,तब महान् धैर्यशाली हनुमानजीने आँखें कुछ खोलकर अपने मधुपिंगल नेत्रोंद्वारा अवहेलनापूर्वक उनकी ओर देखा और उन्हें निकट पाकर उनसे मुसकराते हुए इस प्रकार कहा
hanūmāṁś ca mahāsattva īṣad unmīlya locane | dṛṣṭvā tam atha sāvajñaṁ locanair madhupiṅgalaiḥ | smitena cainam āsādya hanūmān idam abravīt |
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。大いなる魂をもつハヌーマーンは、わずかにまぶたを開き、蜜色の瞳でかすかな侮りを帯びて彼を見やった。やがて微笑みつつ近づき、ハヌーマーンはこう言葉を発した――それは、驕りを戒め、真の力とは節制と洞察によって量られるのだと示す、鋭い教訓の応酬の幕開けであった。
