Educational Q&A

The verse presents a dharmic idea of divine restraint and protection: Śiva contains and bears the river’s waters so that the world remains stable (loka-sthiti). Sacred power is portrayed as beneficial when governed and upheld for universal welfare.

The speaker points to Gaṅgādvāra (Haridvāra) and recalls that Śiva bore the holy waters of the river on his head there. This serves to emphasize the river’s sanctity and its role in safeguarding and sustaining the world.
