Chapter 125
सुकन्याया: पितुश्नास्य लोके कीर्ति: प्रथेदिति । अतो मयैतद् विहितं तव वीर्यप्रकाशनम्
sukanyāyāḥ pituḥ nāsya loke kīrtiḥ prathed iti | ato mayaitad vihitaṃ tava vīrya-prakāśanam ||
ローマシャは語った。「スカンニャーの父が世に名声を広めるため、私はこのこと—すなわち、あなたの武威を公に顕すこと—を取り計らった。かくして、ふさわしき目的のために真の力を示す行いによって、功徳と名聞は積み重なるのだ。」
लोगमश उवाच
Fame and social honor are presented as outcomes of purposeful action: strength should be revealed not for vanity, but to support a worthy end—here, securing good repute for Sukanyā’s father. The verse highlights intention (iti, ataḥ) as ethically significant in judging an act.
Lomaśa explains his motive for arranging an event that will display the listener’s prowess. The stated aim is that Sukanyā’s father will become renowned in the world through this orchestrated demonstration of valor.
